Maine Wedding Photographer Rene Minnis bio picture

  • My Photo Style

I feel happiest when I know I just captured a perfect moment that can now be relived again and again by viewing the photograph. Special moments pass us by every day, almost before we realize they are happening. A photograph is the closest thing we have to saving that time, or feeling forever. (I’m a nostalgic person, can you tell?)

  • Tech Specs

René Minnis has been a full time professional photographer since 1998. Her commercial images and wedding stories have been published in various magazines, ads, and blogs throughout the U.S. She carries high-end Canon equipment with backup cameras, flashes, and lenses, and uses Dynalite strobe equipment. All of your files are archived on disks, drives, and a fire & waterproof external drive.

  • Fun Stuff

When not behind the lens you would most likely see René driving in her car, singing loudly to 80's music while drinking iced coffee. She also enjoys hanging with family and friends, knitting, and hunting for treasures at local vintage/antique stores. René lives in central Maine with her husband Jeff and their dog Cubby.

Maine Birthday Photo Booth

How lucky was I to be a part of Miss Cora’s 4th Birthday party in Hermon Maine?!  Mom, wanted to have a party full of fun and chose to host it at the Hermon Maine Snowmobile Club for ease of clean up, to have space for crafts, and a photo booth!  The theme was Knights and Fair Maidens.  My friend is a very talented and creative graphic designer here in Maine.  She made the adorable invites below.  I hopped right on the photo booth idea.  I love dress up and photography (of course!)  I had been eyeing the fun photo booth backgrounds I had seen on Pinterest and at some of my Maine weddings.  They were made of long torn strips of fabric in three or four colors made into a fluttery curtain or garland of sorts.  I thought, “Hey, I could make that!”  And Cora’s birthday party photo booth was the perfect opportunity.  I had wanted one for my Sabattus Maine photography studio anyway.  I had some props and Bridgit had trunks of things since Cora loves dress up!  She also went all out buying the knights outfit, which all the boys loved.  Guests enjoyed two fun craft projects; crown decorating and mask painting.  The crowns were made from fun scrapbook papers and were adjustable with a velcro.  Stickers and jewels were available to embellishment to your hearts content.   We dined on punch, macaroni & cheese, PB&J with crusts removed, and cheese puffs!  A grand feast for any little lord or lady.  The photo booth shenanigans are sure to make you smile.  Miss Cora was very cute when everyone sang “Happy Birthday”, and she blew out the candles on her pink cone castle birthday cake made by the cake decorator extraordinair, Karen.  ”Aunty” Michele was a big help at the photo booth and made the gift bags that were awarded for the castle bean bag toss game (created by dad!) where everyone was a winner.  Unfortunately I was too busy at the photo booth to get photographs of that.  After the game we all went outside for the Pinata grand finale!  Yay candy!  I hope you enjoy these photographs.  Remember to photograph your family all the time.  They change so quickly, and before you know it they are starting families of their own.  Happy Birthday Cora!  I am so proud to be your “aunty”.  Every time I see you I am impressed by the new things you have learned, your cuteness, and fun personality.  Just like Mom and Dad you are sure to grow into an amazing person!  xoxoxo Aunt Rene

Birthday Party Fun, Maine Style!

Cora and Grandpa were my stand in models!

Miss Cora and 3 pretty cool ladies.  I LOVE this photograph of Cora and Mom (heart melting!)

The torn fabric backdrop came out great, and I plan on offering it for birthdays, mini photo sessions, and some of my Maine wedding clients.  I can even create one special for your event with your colors (yours to keep when the wedding or party is over).

These kids crack me up!

Can you say adorable?

Poland Maine Wedding

This Wedding was a Feature Love story in the Lewiston Auburn Magazine wedding issue!

The Cliffside Lodge in Poland Spring Maine is a hidden gem!  This Maine Photographer is hoping to change that.  I live right down the road,  and love to photograph Maine wedding venues and ceremonies that are close to home.  The Cliffside Lodge has several offerings that make it a unique choice for your wedding day.  When you reserve the lodge you also get accommodations and use of the entire facility.  They have several locations for your wedding ceremony and the grounds are very woodsy and scenic with quaint dirt roads, forests, waterfront, and cabins.  These rustic locations have a great Maine feel and are beautiful for photographs.  Inside the Cliffside Lodge  you will find a large central room of wood floors, open cathedral ceilings boasting large chandeliers, post and beam work, and a large field stone fire place.  The Cliffside Lodge partners with Belle Fete Catering of Brunswick Maine for lovely and delicious plated meals.

Rachel and Tom chose the Cliffside Lodge, Poland Maine for all the reasons above as well as it being perfect to showcase Maine foliage for their fall wedding.  The day was gorgeous and there were so many beautiful details to capture including amazing flower bouquets by Laurie Ouellette  of Sweet Pea Designs.  (each one unique and full of the Autumn colors of Maine!)  We decided to a “First Look”.  This is where the bride and groom choose to do most of their photographs before the wedding ceremony.  Rachel and Tom wanted to spend more time with their geusts.  Tom waited with his back turned in the grand room in front of the fire place.  Rachel approached and said a quiet “hello”.  When Tom turned around you could just see his heart melt at the sight of Rachel!  It was such a sweet moment.  The wedding ceremony was lovely with acoustic guitar accomponyment by a friend of the bride and groom, and sunlight streaming through the trees.  Delicious food was provide by Belle Fete Events & Catering, and Cake by La Belle Torta of Auburn Maine.  After a lovely Maine sunset portrait Rachel & Tom danced the night away with friends and family to music and lighting provided by Greg Young of Northeast DJ’s.

Rachel’s dress, shoes, and accessories glimmered in the streaming sunlight that filtered through the trees during their wedding ceremony on this beautiful Maine afternoon in the fall.

There were gorgeous bouquets in yellows, reds, and oranges for all!  I love white pumpkins and just had to find a unique use for them.  The bride’s father was quite tickled to see me laying on the floor while capturing this photograph of the wedding rings.

Rachel and Tom have fun and supportive friends who love to laugh, as you can see!  These portraits were taken before the ceremony so Tom and Rachel would have more time with their wedding guests.

I just love the above grouping of photographs.  Look how happy Tom is, and the way Rachel’s dress is glowing in the sunlight.  The photograph of her mother and father during the ceremony,.. “sniff”

A bride on tippy toes surrounded by golden Maine foliage, doesnt’ get any better!  Adorable!

Caitlin Andrus - Hi , I am interested in learning more about your venue for my wedding I am planning for 2015. I am a Maine resident and would like to schedule a tour of your facility. Also, the prices listed on the website are for 2013. What are your current prices for 2014 and 2015? And when do you start taking reservations for 2015?
Do you have more photos of the lodge other than the link provided to a past wedding event?
Do you provided tables and chairs for the ceremony and reception? or is that something we must rent on our own?

Thank you!

renem - Hello I am just the photographer of a wedding at this venue. I do not own/make reservations for this venue

Belfast Maine Wedding

Belfast Maine,  another gorgeous location to have your wedding!  But really folks, Maine is just beautiful in general isn’t it!?  This Belfast Maine Wedding started with preparations at Anne’s mother and stepfather’s home.  Sadly Anne’s mother passed the year before the wedding.  Getting ready in her home helped Anne feel closer to childhood memories, and they were able to visit her graveside before the ceremony.  The old Belfast home was perfect for Anne’s vintage sensibility with a lovely heirloom garden in the front yard.  Anne’s creativity lead to many DIY elements at the Board Landing Farm Belfast Maine reception, including the flowers!  She did the amazing arrangements on her own!  The arrangements were primarily dinner plate dahlias from the Endless Summer Flower Farm in Camden Maine.  Table settings included Maine Maps with table numbers and vintage lace runners over navy table linens.  Various sized embroidery hoops with striped and dotted fabrics swayed in the breeze from the tent ceiling and photo display.  Ben & Anne had their wedding ceremony at the 1st Congregational Church of Belfast Maine.  They had spent their first new year’s eve together there, and what’s not to love about the bell tower?!  Both the church and Board Landing Farm were lovely for wedding photography.  The Maine hillside outside the farm were perfect for rambling and some games of bocce.  The sunlight sparkled off the river and glittered through stemware as the sun lowered in the sky.  Geusts were treated to delicious libations by Trillium Caterers, and laughed and danced the into the night with Three Button Deluxe, a Rockland Maine band.  The evening ended with quiet conversation by the riverside bonfire under the light of the full moon.  Maine summer at it’s best.

Maine Pet Photographer

Pets are family too!  I love photographing pets alone or with their owners.  I do these shoots on location throughout the state of Maine,  and in my Sabattus, Maine studio.  On this day we had a whole family of three Leonberger dogs on set.  It was a full house of fluffy hair, new toys, and fun!  Cuddle up with your own “best friends” and enjoy these playful pups.  ~ Rene Minnis Photography

Michele & Mark’s Toy Camera Wedding

This summer I was able to be a guest at a wedding instead of the photographer!  This is a rare occurrence in my life, as most weekends I am booked photographing weddings and portraits.  My friends Michele & Mark tied the knot at The Lookout in Brooklin Maine, a gorgeous location near Blue Hill.  I had no worries about their photography, as the talented Andree Kehn was covering it.  It was such a blessing to have this day to catch up with friends, celebrate, and dance!  I’ve wanted to do some toy camera photographs at weddings but, have always felt too silly to whip out an i-phone alongside my Canon gear..  On this day I left my camera at home, and used the “hipstamatic” toy camera app to sneak a few photographs that I later made into an album for Mark & Michele.  (I must admit, it was adorable!).  I decided to arrive early and help out in any way that might be needed.  I love all things wedding, and know how the day runs, having photographed so many.  I checked in with my pooch Cubby, and went down to the girls cabin to bring them a cooler of icy cold waters and see if there was anything else they might need.  I spent most of my time down at the tent helping Megan Lord of Pencil Events with anything she needed.  I delivered the flowers and boutonnieres created by Megan to the guys and gals and then got ready in the farmhouse where I was staying with several friends and other guests.   Michele and Mark had a pre-cermony cocktail hour where they  greeted guests with smiles and happiness.  During this time, the tide had receded revealing a path marked with glass globes out to the island where Michele and Mark would say their vows.  I mean really, how amazing is that!?  Talk about planning!  Friends and family leisurely followed the path to the  ceremony, that was beautiful,  full of laughter and touching moments.  The post ceremony cocktail hour was unique with activities and craft tables enjoyed by both children and  grown-ups alike!  Dinner was equally fantastic, and the details and decor were gorgeous in orange, navy, and white. I was so honored to be a part of this day full of love, laughter, friendship, dancing, and shenanigans galore!  It was a good reminder that it is important to take time off from our busy schedules and enjoy the people you love.  That is what it’s really about, isn’t it?    Here’s to you Mark & Michele!!   Wishing you many adventures!

Life is Good ~ Enjoy  xoxo Rene
